DFCSG Away Travel News

DFCSG will be running coaches to all away matches. These luxury coaches are supplied by Atkinson’s Coaches and are equipped with toilets and drinks facilities. The coaches leave from Park Place, Darlington and arrive at their destination around 90 minutes before kick-off. You will also be given a 50% refund if subsequently the match is postponed after the coach has left Darlington.

This season DFCSG members will have priority booking until 48 hours before departure, at which point bookings will be opened to non-members.

As in previous seasons the fares will be banded. A ‘standard’ fare of £22 will apply for most journeys, although trips within the North East and Yorkshire will be cheaper.

DFCSG members will receive a 10% discount (rounded to the nearest £) on production of their membership card on the coach. Juniors (u16 on 01/09/18) will be able to travel for half the ‘standard’ fare and they will receive a further discount if they are junior members of DFCSG. Junior members must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Our first away trip of the season will be to Spennymoor Town on Tuesday 7th August leaving at 6pm. The adult fare will be £10 for DFCSG members and £11 for non-members. Junior members will be charged £6 and junior non-members £7.

On Saturday 11th August, it will be an early start of 9.30am for the long trip to Brackley. The adult fare will be £20 for DFCSG members and £22 for non-members. Junior members will be charged £10 and junior non-members £11.

RSPB Member Benefits

rspb.png RSPB Saltholme are offering free parking on production of your DFCSG membership card or your DFC season ticket (car parking is normally £5 for non-members of RSPB).

Saltholme is a wildlife reserve and discovery park. At Saltholme you'll find a world of amazing birds, wildflowers and special animals like hares and water voles. There's also a great shop, cafe, centre and wildlife garden to explore, as well as a great adventure play area and loads of fun events. If you’re new to birdwatching, Saltholme is the perfect place to start. These family-friendly wetlands have a helpful visitor's centre, hides and screens which let you get up close to water rail, yellow wagtails and terns.

Supporters Group Invests in Media Team

The Board of Directors are pleased to announce that DFCSG will be backing our fantastic media volunteers to the tune of £1,500 this summer. The funding was allocated at a board meeting earlier this week, with all in attendance agreeing that it would be money well spent.

DFCSG Chair, Chris Stockdale, commented, “The media team do an exceptional job producing outstanding content, bringing our supporters from far & wide closer to the action. They are at the forefront of promoting our fantastic club and I’m very pleased that the Supporters Group is in a position to help fund their ongoing requirements.”

The majority of the cash will go towards new equipment for Kevin Luff, enabling him to maintain the high standards he has set for the official YouTube channel in recent years. Under Kev’s stewardship, the channel has amassed an astonishing 1.5 million views, making it one of the club’s greatest assets. He’s also captured some of the most iconic moments in Darlo’s 135 year history along the way.

“Most of the cash will be going towards a new laptop”, explained Kev. “This will allow me to work during away trips and bring things like post-match reaction and other content quickly after the full time whistle, and I’m really grateful to the Supporters Group for the money to buy it. Being able to work on video content while travelling up and down the country helps make good use of my time.”

The remaining cash will go towards new equipment for Darlo Fans Radio, which has itself amassed an incredible 194,000 listens on Mixlr. Andrew Simpson, Stuart Armstrong, Michael Cansfield & Michael Price provide an invaluable service, travelling the length and breadth of the country to brave the elements and bring the action live to those of us who can’t be there in person. This season also saw the launch of a popular podcast.

Commentator and podcast host, Stuart Armstrong, has also offered to cover the DFR running costs for the upcoming season using his recent Darlo Fans Lottery win.

Speaking about his generous contribution and the incoming funding, Stuart said “All of us at DFR are grateful for the support we get and excited already for next season. I was lucky enough to win the monthly DFCSG lottery last month and am very happy to have donated some of that unexpected windfall to fund our podcast and commentary subscriptions for the next 12 months.

We are always on the lookout for improved equipment, but at the very least we now know we are set up to bring you all the action and discussion through what looks like being a fantastic season.”

The DFCSG Board intend to fund the equipment purchases using money from the DFCSG accounts. However, it is recognised that many supporters feel a deep sense of gratitude towards the media team and may wish to also make a personal contribution. Any such donations would added to total enabling further investment in media equipment & resources.

ADVERT | Community & Fundraising Team Coordinator

Darlington FC Supporters Group regret to announce that DFCSG Board member, Tony Waters, is standing down from the DFCSG board & associated roles at the end of the current season due to increased demands in his day job.

Tony re-joined the DFCSG board in November and at the same time became Community & Fundraising Coordinator, working closely with Rob Duncan (Fundraising) and Geoff Gale (Community Engagement). We wish to thank him for his leadership, organisation and dedication to the role and recognise the significant progress in the past few months in both community engagement and fundraising. Tony will continue to assist the group on an ad-hoc basis.

We are now looking for someone to take on the role of Community & Fundraising Coordinator. This role is voluntary.

Primarily, this will involve:

    Working with the current fundraising team to produce a calendar of events that will both engage our supporter base and help raise valuable funds for DFCSG, which in turn will be used to invest in Darlington FC.

    Working closely with Rob Duncan and other DFCSG volunteers to organise, publicise and stage fundraising events.

    Working closely alongside Geoff Gale, our Community Liaison Officer, to develop links with local schools and volunteer organisations to benefit our local community, promote the positive messages of Darlington FC & benefits of sport within our local communities.

    Liaise with our charity partners to promote events, raise awareness and fundraise at our home games.

    Being an ambassador for Darlington FC within the local community.

Boost The Budget – Successfully Funded

We did it. Thank you.

407 supporters Boosted The Budget and we surpassed our £80,000 target. The final
total pledged was an astounding £85,875.

Firstly thanks to our volunteers for their hard work on Boost The Budget, an excellent
team effort. Tommy Wright was crucial, giving the scheme his full backing. Lastly, and
most importantly we want to thank everyone who pledged and promoted the
scheme. We've had successful fundraising rounds before, but this has been by far the
most popular. Reaching our target with so many people participating was a special
moment that we can all be proud of.

We have achieved this together and the money pledged will give our club a great
platform to build on for next season. This funding plus the excellent Early Bird season
ticket sales numbers, up 37% on last year, will enable Tommy to put into action his plans
for next season now.

In return for a pledge, depending on the amount, supporters qualify for our Fan
Experience Rewards programme

Fans Lottery - Important Update

Darlington FC Supporters Group was this week informed that the online payment merchant GoCardless, which is used to collect lottery subscriptions, has made a change to its terms and conditions that prohibit the use of the platform for gambling transactions including lotteries. The lottery currently has 135 entrants who use GoCardless as a means to pay their monthly subscription. As a result of the change in T&C’s we can no longer take payment with immediate effect; the last payments that were successfully taken were on the 9th of March.

This only affects those lottery players who pay via GoCardless. If you play the Darlo Fans Lottery via standing order (or another method) you are unaffected.

All GoCardless DD’s normally taken after the 9th of March have been suspended. As a result the team have been looking at ways in which we can continue to take lottery subscriptions via an online method with as little disruption as possible and also with the best customer experience possible – a solution has been found to the issue for existing subscribers however all new entries have been temporarily suspended until further notice.

We also use GoCardless for other fundraising initiatives such as Community Shares and Boost The Budget amongst others – these will remain unaffected as they are not gambling related. It is only the lottery that is affected.

What this means

  • For those who subscribe to the lottery via the GoCardless platform we can no longer process your payment in this way and will need to use an alternative payment merchant which will mean us having to contact you directly by email with a new link to set up a new payment with a new payment provider.

  • For those who have a monthly standing order set up through you bank you will not be affected by this as your monthly payments will continue to be received as normal by DFCSG.

  • In terms of the impact on the overall prize fund there may be a slight reduction depending on how many of the GoCardless entrants sign-up to the new scheme. Whilst we have tried to make this as easy as possible it is inevitable that there will be some players who don’t resubscribe. At the moment we do not have a clear idea on what the impact will be – the impact on the March prize will not be fully known until the end of March and the impact on the April prize will not be known until the 10th of April. As soon as we have calculated the impact we will inform all players.

What happens next

  1. Firstly we will be cancelling all lottery Direct Debit mandates within GoCardless. We have been assured that no further payments will be taken but we will also cancel the mandate. You will receive an email to confirm that the mandate has been cancelled to the email address you subscribed with
    originally.

  2. In order to set all GoCardless players up onto the new payment system we will be issuing invoices which will contain a link for you to enter your payment details. Once the payment details are entered (debit/credit card) you will be billed on a one monthly recurring basis exactly as you
    have been previously billed.

    1. For those whose payment date is on or before the 9th of March we will have received your payment for the March draws and we will send you a link to set up a new payment arrangement when your April payment is due. For example if your DD was successfully taken on the 6th of March you will receive an email on around the 6th of April to set you up on the new system. It is not possible to sign you up earlier as it would mean you would be overpaying.

    2. For those whose payment date is after the 9th of March we will not have received your payment for the March draws and for those who usually pay between the 10th of March and the 21st of March you will receive an email in the next 2-3 days. For those who usually pay after the 21st of March your invoice will be received on or around the date you usually pay. Provided the new payment link is activated before the 31st of March you will be eligible for the March draws.

  3. We will continue working on how we offer new subscriptions to the lottery and will let you know as soon as we find a feasible solution.

The board of Darlington FC Supporters Group apologise for any inconvenience this may cause which unfortunately is completely out of our control and hope that those playing via GoCardless will sign-up via the new payment merchant in order to limit the impact on the crucial funds that are raised for Darlington FC through this draw each month.

The DFCSG - strengthening the roots of our club

The DFCSG created and manage the B2D fund, which is funding available to help establish the Club back in Darlington. The fund acts as the primary collection pot for monies raised from direct donations and events organised by the DFCSG Fundraising Group.

  • Attending matches provides the club with a constant stream of money throughout the season, from additional match-day ticket sales and revenues from catering and other sales (e.g. programme sales, match-day raffle tickets, 50:50 match-day draw, Club merchandise).
  • The Come On Darlo Prediction League is a fun way to add a little bit of an edge to your season - use your skill and judgement to predict how we and the other local clubs will do in the coming season, and who will be the big winners and losers nationally, come the end of the season.
  • The Sponsor a Goal scheme is a fan-run initiative which has raised over £8000 for the Club since it began in season 2012-13.
  • For as little as £5/month the DFC Fans Lottery Draw provides you with the chance to win either £50 in each weekly draw, or even more in the monthly Super Draw. The Lottery has raised more than £10,000 for the Club over the past 12 months.
  • The Fundraising Group runs a series of entertainment fundraising events over the year, the proceeds of which go into the B2D fund.
